Help!! I was really proud I got all the way to row 42. I don’t understand the cable over part. (Rnd. 42: sc in first sc, cable over next 6 dc, sc in next 11 sc, cable over next 6 dc, sc in next 11 sc, join to beginning sc, ch 1. 35 st
Do I do 1 sc, 6 dc, then 11 sc, then 6 dc, then 11 sc.
Thanks

Hi Cathy….this is where you work the “special stitch”…..Special stitch: cable-skip first 3 dc, fpdc in next 3 dc, fpdc in 1st, 2nd and 3rd skipped dc.
This will give the twist for the cables. You want to skip over the first 3 fpdc and work a fpdc in the next 3 fpdc, then go back to the skipped fpdc and work a fpdc in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fpdc. Hope this helps.

Hello! This sock does look good (I only got up to the cables) but I am so confused. I don’t know if it’s the way it’s worded or not but I do not understand this part in round 1: “working in open loop of beginning ch, sc in next ch, join to beginning sc…”. When you say working in open loop – where exactly are you referring to and for beginning chain do you mean the very first one to ever put on my hook or where I started sc in chain 2? I have started this thing a gazillion times and either come up w/ a seam that corkscrews around the entire sock or I end up w/ an annoying extra stitch and the cables are lopsided. I have done far more complicated patterns than this and have done a lot in the round but am having trouble figuring this part out. Please help!!!!!

with E hook, ch 3, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch, here you are actually working in the round…..you want to work around the beginning ch 3…so you will have sc’s worked in the front and back of the beginning ch…….
working in open loop of beginning ch, sc in next ch, join to beginning sc, ch 1, do not turn, in this or following rnds…….it should look like a tiny oval rug. 6 sc
Another way to work rnd. 1……ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to beginning sc……
Hope this helps,
Carol
