AG Duffle Bag-Free Pattern

Skill Level:  Easy

Supplies: 1 oz Sugar and Cream cotton yarn, 10 yds Sugar and Cream cotton yarn in a contrasting color, Size F/5/3.75mm crochet hook, yarn needle, 5/8 inch button, needle and thread.

Stitches Used: ch (chain), slst (slip stitch), sc (single crochet), hdc (half double crochet), dc (double crochet).  Note: turning ch3 counts as first dc.

Gauge: 4 sc = 1 inch, 4 sc rows = 1 inch

Directions for sides, make 2:

Rnd. 1: ch2, 8sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with slst to beginning sc, ch3, do not turn in this or following rnds.     8 sc

Rnd. 2: dc in same st, 2dc in each sc around, join with slst to beginning dc, ch3.   16dc

Rnd. 3: dc in same st, 2dc in each dc around, join with slst to beginning dc, fasten off.

Center

Rnd. 1: ch21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch1, turn.  20 sc

Rnd. 2: sc in each sc across, ch1, turn.    20 sc

Rnds. 3-28: repeat rnd. 2.     20 sc

Rnd. 29: (bag opening) sc in first 3 sc, ch14, skip next 14 sc, sc in last 3 sc, ch1, turn.

Rnd. 30: sc in first 3 sc, sc in next 14 ch, sc in last 3 sc, ch1, turn.    20 sc

Rnd. 31: sc in each sc across, ch1, turn.    20 sc

Rnd. 32: repeat rnd. 31, fasten off.

With wrong sides facing, fold in half and sew across 20 sc.

With wrong sides facing sew ends to bag, turn to right side. (or with right sides facing, sc ends to bag center.)

Top Flap Cover

Rnd. 1: with right side facing, attach yarn in front loop of first sc on bag opening, sc in each sc across opening, ch1, turn.    14 sc

Rnd. 2: sc in each sc, ch1, turn.    14 sc

Rnds. 3-7: repeat rnd. 2.      14 sc

Rnd.8: sc in first 6 sc, ch2, skip next 2 sc, sc in last 6 sc, ch1, turn.  12 sc

Rnd. 9: sc in 6 sc, work 2sc in ch-2 sp, sc in next 6 sc, ch1, turn.   14 sc

Rnd. 10: sc in each sc, ch1, turn.         14 sc

Rnd. 11: sc in first 2 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next 6 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in last 2 sc, fasten off.      14 st

Rnd. 12: attach yarn at first rnd of flap, working around flap, sc in each st and sc in each rnd, join with slst to last sc of flap opening, fasten off.

Strap:

Rnd. 1: attach yarn through both thickness of bag and side at rnd 30, ch45, sc through both thickness at opposite end of bag at rnd. 30, ch1, turn, slst in each ch across, join with slst to beginning sc, fasten off.

Position button in lower center on flap at rnd. 8 and sew in place.
