I don’t understand Rnd. 1: ch 5, *dc, ch 2 in 5th ch from hook*, repeat 5 times, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 5, do not turn in this or following rnds.. 6-ch 2 sp
If you only repeat from the asterisk, you don’t have 5 chains from hook to dc in. I am misunderstanding this. Could you elaborate?
June 6, 2010 at 1:13 pm
When you complete the repeats, it looks like a wagon wheel……..chain 5 (this counts as your very first dc, ch 2), then work a dc, ch 2 in the very first chain of the chain 5, then dc, chain 2 in the very same 1st ch…..do this until you have a total of 6-ch 2 spaces…….join in the 3rd ch of the very first ch 5……..hope this helps, let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

Got it! (Finally) My best friend’s little girl is having her 9th birthday soon and all she wants is AG doll clothes. I have worked so many of your patterns successfully, but really needed this hat. Thank you so much for sharing your abundant talents and for being so responsive to my question.

It’s my pleasure! Anytime!

I just want to thank you for sharing your patterns with us out here in cyber space. Every one of the items look so pretty. My granddaughter has just gotten a AG doll and can’t afford to buy outfits so I will be making her some. I haven’t made anything yet but can’t wait to get started. Just newly laid off after 18 years and have lots of time to make things.

Thank you so much for your kind words……I know exactly what you mean! LOL-The clothes cost more than kid’s clothes! Anyway, have fun with the patterns and if you have
any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I hope to be adding more very soon.

I am trying to make the hat and I can’t understand how to join the 1st and second mofits together. Please help!
September 25, 2010 at 7:21 am
When you get to the last rnd on the second motif, you start with the sc, ch 3…….now you want to sl st around one of the ch 6 loops on the first motif…….this will join the 2 motifs together…..then ch 3 and skip the next 2 sc on the second motif, and sc in the next sc on that second motif………….you do this twice more…….this will link the first and second motif at 3- ch 6 loops, then finish the last rnd of the 2nd motif with ch 6 loops. Hope this helps.

When first made, this hat would only fit 14 inch doll
(FURGA) will have to be re-sized for AG or larger doll-does not fit my 16 inch doll either, perhaps if it were made in sport weight yarn or a stretchy crochet yarn it would fit AG dolls.
Thank you for hearing me.

Sorry it didn’t work for you, perhaps a size 0 hook or 00 will work better for you.

Got the first three circles with no problem, but 4 and 5 are something else. A picture of the hat from the back would sure be a help. Thanks for sharing your patterns. We Granny’s don’t have a lot of money for patterns but love to make things for the grandkids. You sure make it easier. THANKS!!

The flowers all join the same…..it might be easier to join the 4 flowers that make the sides, joining the last one to the opposite side of the first flower to form a circle and then just join the top center flower to all the open loops……hope that makes sense……LOL…………I know what you mean as one granny to another!

That makes perfect sense, why didn’t I think of it? Guess I had turkey on my mind. Thanks so much. Hope your holiday was a good one. Cecelia

Hello, Thanks for sharing this pattern! I’m no crochet expert…I’m having trouble interpreting the very first step. When it says “ch 2 in 5th chain from hook” – what does that mean? How do I get into the 5th chain to chain 2?? And when you say 5th from hook, does that make it the 1st chain on my foundation chain?
January 10, 2011 at 9:58 pm
Never mind, I totally figured it out! I was reading this as two separate steps and misinterpreting what was meant. I’ve got a good start on it now. Thanks again for sharing the pattern!

That’s great……just give a shout if you have any other questions or concerns.

Would appreciate any info.

Where do you sc to start? I understand the sl to the Center Motif, but where do you sc? THANKS!

Hi Mary:
Rnd. 5: ch 1, *sc, ch 3……this is in the first sc where you joined on rnd. 4…….., sl st in ch 6 loop on Center Motif, ch 3, skip next 2 sc*, repeat from asterisks twice; **sc, ch 6, skip next 2 sc**, repeat from **asterisks 8 times, join with sl st to beginning sc, fasten off.
You will be working back and forth between motif 1 and 2 until you have joined in 3-ch 6 spaces, then you work the rest of the ch 6 spaces like you did on the first motif.
Hope this helps,
Carol

Understand it now! Coming along beautifully! Am using yarn and a larger hook and making it to “match” one on an American Girl doll for a friend’s daughter. I’ll send a photo when completed.
THANKS!
January 19, 2012 at 8:46 am
That’s fantastic! I can’t wait to see the photo. I love to see others creations……after all, a pattern is only a suggestion, it’s what you do with it that makes it yours!

hi cobblerscabin. such a wonderful talent you are. i am kind of advanced beginner to crochet and your free patterns are great for people like me. and specially thi floral motif hat. i havent found anything like that on internet. such a beautiful pattern. i want to make this hat for my 1 and half year old daughter who wears size18 hat could you please help me to change this doll hat into a toddlers hat. actually i cricheted ine according to the above pattern because no size was mentioned but the end result is way too small. please help me how to increase the size of this pattern.. thank you for so many beautiful patterns.
August 1, 2014 at 7:31 am
Thank you so much. The original design was for an 18″ doll……For a larger size…….you will probably want to move up to a sports weight (#3 weight) yarn and an F or G hook. Hope this helps.

ohh thank you very much for your reply cobblerscabin. yupe this makes sense to me. hope it will work for me. thanks again

This is absolutely beautiful, and I was able to expand this to fit an adult size head as well. Rather than attaching each motif to three 6 sc loop on the center, I only attached to two 6 sc loops. This increased the number of motifs in the second ring to 6. I was then able to add a third ring of 6 motifs, this time attaching to 3 6 sc loops to complete the circle. It turned out very well.

Fantastic! It’s great when you’re able to mdodify a pattern, it makes it more “yours”……after all……patterns are only suggestions!

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful designs for free with all of us . I have 3 Granddaughters that love American Gril Dolls and when you have to buy 3 of the same items at the store and I’m able to crochet it’s great. I am going to try and make this hat for them for Easter? Wish me luck? I’m a beginner so I was reading all the comments and they help. Again Thank You and you are a Blessing for us Grandmother who are home and want to make our Granddaughters a little Gift.
Greatly Appreciated
