Fun, Funky, Fluffy, Flap Hat-Free Crochet Pattern

A quick and easy pattern for a really fun hat! Average size (20-21”).  This hat just cracks me up!

Skill Level: Easy

Supplies: Size N Boye Aluminum Crochet Hook, 4.5 ounces Red Heart Light and Lofty (Tahoe Multi #9325).

Stitches Used: ch (chain), sl st (slip stitch), sc (single crochet), dec sc (decrease sc), dc (double crochet).

Gauge: 5 sc = 3 inches, 8 rows = 4 inches.

Directions:

Rnd. 1. ch 2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to beginning sc, ch 1, do not turn in this or following rnds.           8 sc

Rnd. 2: 2 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1.         16 sc

Rnd. 3: sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from asterisks 6 times, join, ch 1.             24 sc

Rnd. 4: sc in first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from asterisks 6 times, join, ch 1.         32 sc

Rnd. 5: sc in each sc around, increase evenly by 4 sc, join, ch 1.        36 sc

Rnd. 6: sc in each sc around, join, ch 1.           36 sc

Rnds. 7-12: repeat rnd. 6.          36 sc

Ear Flap

Rnd. 13: sc in first 10 sc, ch 1, turn.          10 sc

Rnd. 14: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.          10 sc

Rnd. 15: dec sc over first 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc, dec sc over next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.      8 sc

Rnd. 16: dec sc over first 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, dec sc over next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.         6 sc

Rnd. 17: dec sc over first 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, dec sc over next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.        4 sc

Rnd. 18: dec sc over first 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.          3 sc

Rnd. 19: sc in first sc, ch 2, skip next sc, sc in next sc, fasten off.

Second Ear Flap

Rnd. 13: skip next 8 sc, attach yarn in next sc, sc in same st and sc in next 9 sc, ch 1, turn.

Rnds. 14-18: repeat rnds. 14-18 of first Ear Flap.

Rnd. 19: sc in first sc, ch 2, skip next sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, do not turn.

Rnd. 20: work 1 sc in the end of each rnd on flap and sc in each sc around base of hat to ch 2 sp, *sc, ch 27, work 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook, drop hook from last loop of lasts dc, insert hook into 1st dc, pull loop from last dc through, sl st in next 24 ch, sc in same ch 2 sp*, continue to sc around to next ch 2 sp, repeat from asterisks once, join to beginning sc, fasten off, weave in ends.

Pom-Pom

Wrap yarn 40 times around a 2″ cardboard, remove from cardboard, tie securely in center.  Evenly cut ends and fluff.  Tie pom-pom to top, center of hat.
