Supplies: Size 1/B/2.25mm crochet hook, 50 yards size 10 cotton crochet thread (blue-color 1), 150 yards size 10 cotton crochet thread (white-color 2) , needle, thread, 1-3/8″ button.
Stitches Used: slst (slip stitch), ch (chain), sc (single crochet), scdec (decrease single crochet), hdc (half double crochet), dc (double crochet).
Gauge: 8 sc = 1 inch, 8 sc rows = 1 inch

I love this dress. I got as far as the tie and am lost! But I dont want to give up yet. Can you explain how to crochet 14 sc over the tie? Thanks so much for sharing and for your help.

I’ll try. When you start the waist, hold the tie in your hands and work your sc around the tie string. You are actually covering the whole tie with the sc’s. Once you get the sc around the string, slide them to the center of the tie and continue on. I have sent you an email with a picture. Hope this helps.

Thanks. After I complete row 1 I tie the ends together and that is my tie to go on? I think I have it! I feel so stupid. I have been crocheting for 40+ years! Must be the aging process. Thanks again. I found the cutest sail boat buttons for the dress!!

Hi!, What do you mean by “holding last loop back?”
and I am confused by the part telling you how to do the tie, it says “chain 118″ but then it says to chain it again? I’m confused… it sounds like a really long chain, but the second round says to work 14 singles over the tie, but the tie seems to be over 200 stitches… I don’t know what it means?
This is so cute, and I would love to try to make it, thank yoU!

As with a few others, I am confused with the tie concept. I have been crocheting for 40 years and am uncertain what to do. Any help would be very much appreciated. The dress is very cute and my grand-daughter will love it. I hope it fits a cabbage patch doll. Thank you.

Wow, I’ve been crocheting a long time and the Tie instructions definitely threw me for a loop. I got the tie part figured out, and think I now understand the 14 sc over the tie part ( after reading about), I would appreciate seeing the instructions you are mentioning. Thanks for sharing these patterns. My daughter and granddaughter will be thrilled.

Rnd. 1: (Tie) color 1, ch 3, *holding last loop back of each dc, work 5 dc in 3rd ch from hook*, ch 118, repeat from asterisks once, fasten off.
Once you start the tie with the ch 3, you will actually be making a popcorn st when you work the 5 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook. This is done by starting the first dc as always, but do not pull the thread thru the second loop, leave it on the hook and staqrt you second dc, go thru the first loop and leave the second loop on the hook…….do this until you have 5 dc, then go yarn over and pull thru all loops on the hook. Chain 118, then repeat the popcorn stich on the end of the chain.
This creates little nubs at the ends of the tie.
Rnd. 2: (Dress) color 2, work 14 sc over tie, ch 1, turn.
This rnd. is not worked in the chains, but over them. It’s much faster and will allow the tie to”slide” a bit and can be centered easily.

I am doing the hat. When you say to fold at the base and sc through
the thickness, do you fold the base to the outside or the inside of the
hat. I cannot tell by the picture if there is a ridge or what.

Fold so that the “overlap” is on the outside…..it should look like a little sailors hat……fold it up towards the top of the hat and then sc around the bottom. Hope that helps……feel free to contact me anytime.
